Feature

File upload form

The file upload field lets your customer drag and drop a photo or document into the form. You see the damaged roof or the utility bill before the first call, without a follow-up email asking for it.

What is a file upload form?

A file upload form is a form that accepts a file, such as a photo or a document, together with the customer's answers. In Growform the file upload field is one of 25+ field types, and it can be placed on any step of a multi-step form. The customer drags a file onto the field, or clicks the field to choose one from their device.

How many files can a form with file upload collect?

A form with file upload collects one file for each upload field, and each file can be up to 100 MB. You add a second field when you need a second file. A storm damage claim form could have one field for a photo of the roof and another for the insurer's letter, each with its own name and instructions.

Which file types does the field accept?

The field accepts most file types and refuses a small number, such as .exe files. Photo and document upload both work through the same field. Use the field name and helper text to say which file you expect.

Where in the form should you ask for a file?

Ask for the file late in the form, and only from the customers who have one to give. Finding a photo takes more effort than tapping a button, so it belongs after the easy questions. Conditional logic can show the field after a particular answer, for example when a homeowner says the roof has storm damage.

How to add a file upload field in Growform

Add the upload field

Open your form in the drag-and-drop builder and place a “File upload” field on the step where you want it.

Say what you need

Use the field name and the helper text to describe the file, such as a photo of the damaged area.

Make it required or optional

Switch on “This field is required” if the lead is of no use to you without the file.

Show it to the right customers

Add a conditional logic rule to the field if only some customers should be asked, then save the form.

What a photo or document adds to a lead

  • Your estimator sees the job before the first call.

A photo of the roof, the boiler or the room to be renovated arrives as part of the form.

  • Solar leads can include a recent electricity bill.

The homeowner uploads the bill, which saves them finding and typing the usage figures.

  • Claims can be assessed with the evidence attached.

A photo of the accident scene or a copy of a letter is collected in the same form as the claimant's answers.

  • You stop sending follow-up emails that ask for files.

The file is requested while the customer is still engaged with the form.

Is file upload included on the Basic plan?

Frequently asked questions

How do I collect several photos from one customer?

Add one file upload field for each photo. Each field takes a single file.

What is the largest file the field will take?

The limit is 100 MB per file. A larger file is refused and the customer is shown an error message.

Where does the uploaded file go?

Each lead carries a link to its file. The link appears with the lead in Growform and is sent with the other answers through webhooks and Zapier.

Does every customer have to upload a file?

No. The upload is only mandatory when “This field is required” is switched on, and conditional logic can hide the field from customers who do not need it.
